Via Meit Oqba Development

Measuring digital and online activism and effectiveness at AUC
VIA; Meet Oqba Development

An interview has been conducted with the Head of the Media committee of VIA-Volunteers in Action, one of the most active community service clubs at AUC, along with the Head of the Junior Development Program of the club. In the following questions and answers, the aim is to try and measure how socially or civically active part of the AUC community is, and what the relation between this activism and the digital mediums is. VIA won second place in the Student Awards Ceremony 2010, a ceremony held by the Student Union at AUC to honor the most active and influential social service venues on campus. The Interview has been conducted with Nizar Khashaba, Mass Communication Junior at AUC and Hebatullah Khalil, a Political Science Senior at AUC.
The design of the interview followed a set of general questions about VIA’s use of digital mediums, followed by a specific set of questions of how the digital is used in Civic engagement and particularly in the domain of human development at the Meet Oqba neighborhood. (Meet Oqba is one of the most unfortunate, poor, underdeveloped, and dangerous neighborhoods of Cairo)
